Inspired by 8 Minutes, Alexander Whitley’s 2017 stage production exploring the world of solar physics, this virtual reality experience, made in collaboration with the Guardian, uses contemporary dance and motion capture technology to explore movement across human and astronomical scales.

In this interactive 360 experience originally made for the Google Daydream platform, users journey between two stunning cosmic worlds and experience the choreography and environments in different ways.

Exploring the new creative possibilities opened up by digital technology is a defining principle behind Alexander Whitley Dance Company and the productions we have created. I’m thrilled, therefore, to have had the opportunity to work with the Guardian’s award-winning Virtual Reality department in the creation of this new experiential platform for 8 Minutes. I’m as excited by what dance has to bring to the burgeoning field of virtual reality as I am by the opportunity it presents for creating and experiencing new forms of dance performance.
