Created for the Royal Opera House's Clore Studio, Noumena was made in response to Frederick Ashton’s ballet, Sylvia, which features one of the most celebrated and challenging female roles in The Royal Ballet’s repertory.

Created for the Royal Opera House's Clore Studio, Noumena was made in response to Frederick Ashton’s ballet, Sylvia, which features one of the most celebrated and challenging female roles in The Royal Ballet’s repertory. Drawing on the work of psychoanalyst Carl Jung, the mythological themes of Sylvia are reframed through an exploration of the inner feminine drive (Anima), and the human unconscious. 

captivating... containing some of Whitley’s most fluid and intricate choreography, full of ideas that capture the complex relationships of the alter egos. At once accessible and deeply layered, it was performed immaculately by the quartet.
